Hmm…

That’s a good question, actually. “Dreampunk” means different things to different people:
- A musical genre in the vicinity of vaporwave
- The accompanying visual aesthetic
- An individualistic back-to-nature philosophy
- An indie publishing company
- A surreal tabletop role-playing game
On this site, however, we’ll be talking primarily about dreampunk fiction, a trippy subgenre of speculative fiction focused on dreamlike states and their interaction with consensus reality. It often overlaps with irrealism and sometimes with cyberpunk.
Join me and other authors as we attempt to answer the question “What is dreampunk?” in a little more detail. I’ve also compiled lists of books, movies, and series that fit the bill in my opinion.
